Most reaction tools ask you to wait for a green box and click. That measures reflex, but real life rarely hands you a single obvious button. A ball comes at you from the left and you have to decide — left, now. This tool trains that decision: see the direction, pick the key, move. The extra half-step is exactly what slows people down when it matters.
Why a direction, not just a tap
When you only press one thing, your brain is on autopilot. Add a direction and suddenly it has to read, decide, and route to the right finger — the same pipeline a return-volley or a dodge uses. The number you get here is a little higher than a plain click-reaction test on purpose: it includes that decision, which is the part worth training.
- Under 300 ms — quick. You're reading and routing fast.
- 300–350 ms — about average for a direction cue.
- Over 400 ms — the decision is lagging; short daily reps close most of the gap.
How a run works
- Wait — a "+" sits there. Don't press yet; pressing early just resets the round.
- Flash — an arrow pops up for a beat. Hit the matching arrow key (or on-screen, just use the keys).
- Repeat — ten rounds. We average your correct presses. Wrong key or slow hand both drag the number down.
Where it sits in the toolkit

Does practice actually lower reaction time?
The raw nerve speed barely moves, but the decision and anticipation get faster, and that's most of the number. A few minutes most days reliably shaves your average over a couple of weeks, then it plateaus — which is normal.
